Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide who will be your companion throughout the tour. After a brief introduction, you will embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park. As you travel, take in the beautiful landscapes and rolling hills that Rwanda is famous for. Upon reaching the park, you will check in at your accommodation, which offers comfort and relaxation. Take some time to unwind and prepare for the exciting days ahead.
After an early breakfast, you will make your way to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. Here, you will receive important information about gorilla trekking, including safety guidelines and the etiquette to be followed during the encounter. Once the briefing is complete, you will be assigned to a gorilla family group and start your trek into the lush forests of Volcanoes National Park. Led by experienced guides and trackers, you will navigate through the dense vegetation in search of the gorillas. The trek can vary in duration and difficulty, depending on the location of the gorilla family. However, the moment you encounter these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat will be truly awe-inspiring. You will have the opportunity to observe their behavior, and interactions, and even capture memorable photographs. After spending a magical hour with the gorillas, you will return to your lodge for relaxation and reflection on this extraordinary experience.
Today, you will embark on a thrilling golden monkey trek within Volcanoes National Park. Accompanied by knowledgeable guides, you will venture into the forest in search of these playful and unique primates. The golden monkeys are known for their vibrant golden fur and lively behaviour, making this encounter a delightful experience. As you follow their movements through the trees, you will witness their agility and curiosity up close. After the trek, you will visit the Ibyiwacu Cultural Center, where you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Rwandan culture. Interact with local communities, learn about their traditions, and gain insights into their way of life. Experience traditional dances, music, and storytelling performances that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda. At the end of the day, return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest.
After breakfast, bid farewell to Volcanoes National Park and embark on a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The journey takes you through picturesque landscapes, offering breathtaking views of Rwanda’s countryside. As you approach Nyungwe Forest, the mist-covered mountains and dense vegetation create an atmosphere of tranquility and natural beauty. Upon arrival at your lodge, settle in and take time to relax, enjoying the peaceful surroundings. This is also a perfect opportunity to prepare for the upcoming chimpanzee tracking adventure.
Today, you will embark on an exciting chimpanzee tracking expedition in the pristine Nyungwe Forest. Early in the morning, accompanied by experienced guides, you will set out to locate the chimpanzee groups within the forest. As you trek through the lush greenery, keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of these remarkable creatures. Once you find them, you will have the chance to observe their behaviour, and interactions, and even witness their acrobatic feats swinging through the trees. Nyungwe Forest is also home to a diverse array of other primate species, birds, and flora, which you may encounter during your trek. This immersive experience in the natural habitat of chimpanzees will leave you with lasting memories. After the trek, return to your lodge and reflect on the incredible encounters you have had in Nyungwe Forest.
On your final day, you will embark on a journey of remembrance and reflection as you visit the Genocide Memorial Sites. These important sites serve as a tribute to the victims of the Rwandan genocide and provide insights into the country’s history, resilience, and ongoing reconciliation efforts. After paying your respects, you will return to Kigali for a city tour, exploring the vibrant capital and its landmarks. Visit the National Museum, where you can delve deeper into Rwanda’s history, art, and culture. Explore the bustling markets, vibrant neighbourhoods, and modern developments that showcase the progress and spirit of the Rwandan people. Finally, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your unforgettable primate safari in Rwanda.
