Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park, located in southwestern Rwanda, is a pristine rainforest sanctuary known for its exceptional biodiversity and stunning natural beauty. Covering an area of approximately 1,020 square kilometres, Nyungwe Forest is one of the largest montane forests in East and Central Africa, offering a haven for numerous plant and animal species.

The forest is home to over 13 different primate species, including chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and L'Hoest's monkeys, making it a prime destination for primate tracking and wildlife viewing. Nyungwe Forest is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 300 bird species, including the rare and endemic Albertine Rift species.

Visitors to Nyungwe Forest National Park can explore a network of hiking trails that wind through the dense forest, offering opportunities to encounter primates, spot birds, and discover hidden waterfalls and scenic viewpoints. One of the park's highlights is the Canopy Walkway, a suspended bridge that allows visitors to walk among the treetops and enjoy breathtaking views of the forest canopy.

Nyungwe Forest is not only a sanctuary for wildlife but also a cultural heritage site, with historical roots dating back to ancient times. This protected area stands as witness to Rwanda's commitment to conservation and offers an immersive experience in the heart of Africa's montane rainforest.
