Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, situated in Nakasongola district, is a conservation area dedicated to the protection and breeding of the endangered white rhinoceros in Uganda. Covering approximately 70 square kilometres of savannah and woodland, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary plays a crucial role in the conservation efforts to restore the rhinoceros population in Uganda.
Established in 2005, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is home to a growing population of southern white rhinos, which were once extinct in Uganda due to poaching. The sanctuary offers visitors the rare opportunity to track these magnificent creatures on foot, accompanied by experienced rangers. Observing these massive animals in their natural habitat is not only a thrilling experience but also a unique educational opportunity to learn about rhinoceros conservation and the challenges they face in the wild.
