Morning Pickup:

Your professional bird guide will pick you up from Kampala or Entebbe at around
7:00 AM. After a short briefing, begin your journey westwards towards Mabamba,
passing through small towns, cultivated fields, and Lake Victoria’s scenic shores.

Arrival at Mabamba:

Upon arrival, you will transfer into a local motorized canoe with an experienced
local guide. The canoe glides through narrow channels lined with papyrus, water
lilies, and floating vegetation, creating the perfect environment to search for the
legendary Shoebill Stork.
Birding Experience on Water:
The highlight of the tour is spotting the Shoebill, often standing motionless as it
hunts for lungfish. Apart from the Shoebill, Mabamba is home to numerous bird
species including:

• African Jacana
• Malachite Kingfisher
• African Fish Eagle
• Purple Swamphen
• Blue-breasted Bee-eater
• Yellow-billed Duck
• Pied Kingfisher
• White-faced Whistling Duck
• Goliath Heron

Mabamba is also part of the IBA (Important Bird Area) network, making it a prime
birding site for local and migratory birds.

Lunch:

Return to the shores around midday and enjoy lunch (either packed or at a nearby
lakeside restaurant depending on your preference).

Afternoon Birding (Optional):

After lunch, you can take a short guided walk around the swamp edges or
surrounding village paths to spot more wetland and forest-edge species before
heading back.

Return Journey:

Depart Mabamba in the late afternoon and drive back to Kampala or Entebbe,
arriving in the evening.
